A pair of stomping boots is a set of magical boots that appear in SpliceHack and Hack'EM.

Description

When worn, stomping boots provide 1 AC and allow the wearer to deal instakills to tiny (or very small) monsters. This can be very useful against the team a variety that pose a high risk to early characters. Soldier ants, locusts, spark bugs, arc bugs, and lightning bugs, and leprechauns can all be stomped out quickly and efficiently with these boots.

On each stomp, you will also wake up nearby monsters - so this may be a consideration if being stealthy is of importance.

Identification

Stomping boots are trivial to identify. If you don't have stealth and are not flying or levitating, you will autoidentify them as soon as you wear them, "You begin stomping around very loudly."

Even if you don't auto-identify on wear, you will when stomping on a tiny monster (eg "You stomp on the grid bug!").

History

Stomping boots first appear in SpliceHack.

Variants

Hack'EM

Stomping boots also have a 1 in 4 chance of insta-killing small monsters, in addition to the guaranteed instakill of tiny monsters.

In Hack'EM, tiny monsters make up about 7% of the monster population, while small monsters make up roughly 17%. Having stomping boots will give you an extremely effective solution against almost 25% of the monsters you will encounter in the dungeon.
