I was playing my first game of Slash’EM on hardfought.org via iSH (Terminal app for iPad) and doing really well, but because I couldn’t see my status after a certain point, I died from delayed sickness to a rot worm at experience level 19, despite having a blessed +5 unicorn horn, because I never knew I was sick. Yes, I realise I could pay more attention to messages, but I’m never going to catch every single one. It’s just not fun playing that way. Even more frustrating, there was no way for me to even check my status! My friend playing via Terminal to hardfought.org on Linux has the same problem with status not showing once he gets above a certain level too. It’s something about the longer XL titles and higher attributes pushing it off screen.

I had a full ascension kit and maxed out stats. I’m still SO mad.

I’m not risking that again. iNethack2 used to be pretty great, but then it was updated when 3.6.7 came out, and I hate that version of the game. There’s no way to roll back. And that app was never ideal because it didn’t allow one to have multiple games going at once under multiple different names.

So, I want to pay someone to make a port of ports for iPad that will work like iNethack but ideally with the option for multiple player characters and Slash’EM as well. I am also willing to get another Tablet if porting to Android would be easier. I could just never update it, which might require changes to the app, and I would use it only for playing these games. Please email to fenjafique@gmail.com if interested or if you have suggestions as to how to find a dev. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhodium (talkcontribs) 2026-02-14T13:01:29

What size is your terminal set to? There are two possible reasons you couldn't see the full status line: your terminal was configured with too few columns, and there wasn't enough room for all the statuses to display; or your terminal had too many columns, and your physical screen couldn't display them all. In the latter case, you could try reducing the font size to get more columns on screen. Alternatively, try setting the statuslines option to 3, to force the game to allocate an extra row for status. --Darth l33t (talk) 17:06, 16 February 2026 (UTC)

iSH doesn’t have the ability to change the terminal size. I tried changing the font size, but that didn’t fix it. There is no statusline option while playing on hardfought.org and I don’t believe this is unique to my terminal app since my friend has the same problem on a true terminal in Linux. I would be willing to pay for a paid Terminal app that enables me to play ofc, if that somehow IS the problem. Playing on the browser Terminal (hterm) doesn’t work on iPad, either. —Rhodium (talk) 16:33, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

You could try a different terminal app. Termius on Android will use almost the whole screen if you use a floating soft keyboard or a physical one; I assume its iOS version works similarly. I don't know if Slash'EM supports the Curses interface, but if so, that gives the game plenty of room to display every status. --Darth l33t (talk) 21:30, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

I’m playing on Termius now (on iPad). I finally got a character past XL 12. There’s no support for curses on hardfought, though, so I’m not sure that being on android would be any better. I now have an even more annoying problem, where the bottom status line is doubled, so I can’t see my stats. Changing the font does nothing, just makes everything bigger or smaller. Grok keeps telling me it should redraw the screen in landscape mode, but it doesn’t, and I can’t play in that mode anyway because it hurts my shoulder. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhodium (talkcontribs)

That sounds like a bug in the terminal application. If you contact Termius support, they can hopefully reproduce and fix it.--Darth l33t (talk) 20:03, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
I suggest you try LaTerminal. ——lux 10:08, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
