A vent is a type of dungeon feature that appears in SpliceHack and Hack'EM. In SpliceHack, the vent is colored black (#), while in Hack'EM the vent is colored bright cyan (#).

Description

In SpliceHack, a vent will release clouds of gas at regular intervals that covers a roughly diamond-shaped area with a 3-square radius centered on the vent's square: vents generated deeper in the dungeon has a chance of releasing a plume of poison clouds, and will otherwise release normal clouds of harmless mist. The type of gas emitted is determined per-vent during level creation.

In Hack'EM, a vent functions similarly to vents in SpliceHack, but also has a 115 chance of releasing a monster instead of gas: this monster has a 15 chance of being a snake, a 15 chance of being a rodent, and will otherwise be an arachnid or centipede monster—a vent that releases poison clouds has a high chance of producing a monster with poison resistance.

Vents can be destroyed by earthquakes. In Hack'EM, dropping or throwing a bomb down a vent has a 35 chance of causing a small earthquake and collapsing the vent.
