Configuration file is the the place where you should put your configuration options. On linux and other unix-type OSes, it is ~/.nethackrc, on Windows it's defaults.nh
You can also define the configuration file used by NetHack by setting the environment variable NETHACKOPTIONS to @/path/config.file.
