A pony is represented by the letter u. Throw a pony a treat like a carrot or apple (but not an orange), and it will become tame (your pet). Pet ponies can be saddled and ridden, giving the player the speed of the pony. Horses and Warhorses are especially fast.
Ponies grow into horses and then into warhorses, the most powerful form.
A knight starts with a tame saddled pony.
A pony has an animal body. It has no hands. It is a herbivore.

While shopping with pets has certain advantages, it might be best to shut your horse out of the shop, especially in deeper levels. Horses are especially vulnerable to mimics and have an innate hostility toward shopkeepers, for whom they are rarely an adequate match.
