NetHack 3.7.0

NetHack 3.7.0 or NetHack 3.7 was the interim name given, during its development, to unreleased (but publicly available) code intended for a new major version of NetHack subsequent to the release of NetHack 3.6.0.

The name does not refer to any specific version of NetHack – rather, it was historically generally used to refer to whatever the most recently available unreleased/development version of NetHack was at the time, so seeing a historical record of a game "played on NetHack 3.7.0" or "played on NetHack 3.7" is not sufficient to determine what version of the game it was played on. Dumplogs for games played on these versions contain a git commit hash in the first line, which can be used to identify the specific version.

Due to the confusion caused by the use of the names "NetHack 3.7" and "NetHack 3.7.0" to refer to multiple different unreleased versions of the game (often without specifying which one), rather than a single specific version, the version number was retired and will not be used for any future version of NetHack.

Availability

NetHack 3.7.0 was never officially released and never had official binaries. Its source code was eventually used to produce a new major version, NetHack 5.0.0.

During development, its source code was publicly available on GitHub and could be played on the Hardfought public server. Every past version of NetHack 3.7.0 is available from the main NetHack git repository, via specifying the specific commit hash.
