You will touch an artifact whenever ...
Could someone verify this list? More specifically, wishing and stealing? I'm not seeing anything in steal.c, although I'm not sure that's the correct file for a player stealing from monsters. Is it possible to get a Nymph or whatever to pick up a cross-aligned intelligent artifact and steal it from her to bypass the artifact blasting? Wishing will definitely blast you, but if you are fumbling or if your inventory is full the wished-for item will automatically drop to the floor instead of going into your inventory. Could this be used to bypass the blast? -- Qazmlpok 17:39, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
- The second one, definitely not. Except if you want to leave the item on the floor...Newtkiller 19:09, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, I have wizard mode now. Wishing for an item will always blast you even if the item falls to the ground other than because you're too 'out of sync'. The plan was indeed to leave it on the ground, but temporarily - if a low level character (especially a pacifist, who will spend more time with a low level) should find a wand of wishing, they can't safely wish for any cross-aligned artifact due to the blasting damage. And the early game is otherwise the best time to wish for artifacts due to the probability of failure that comes about in the later game. I was hoping a player could deliberately cause the item to fall and to not blast the player and allow the player to leave the item there until it can be safely picked up, or to have something else pick it up and steal it from them as soon as polymorphing into a nymph is safe. Sadly this does not work, both cases will still blast you. -- Qazmlpok 21:21, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
- Just spinning the wheels here, but if it's a wand and you can spare a wish you might ask for a cloak of majic resistance first, which would cut the blast damage to a max of 20hp, if you can survive that - and the cloak is a pretty useful item anyway.63.234.66.2 02:30, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
