The amulet of second chance is an amulet in NetHack: The Next Generation which also appears in Slash'EM Extended and SlashTHEM.

Its function is identical to that of the amulet of life saving, but with one significant difference: when (and if) you revive, it resets your health, not to your maximum, but to the number of hit points you had before you were killed. If you were killed by a single hit, your health will be reset to the amount you had before the final blow—in essence, giving you a second chance to escape from the situation that killed you.

Strategy

This item is a dubious substitute for the existing amulet of life saving. If you want to resume playing after getting killed, it's far better to do so with full health, especially if you died from low hit points rather than, say, an instakill from poison, illness, or touch of death. Still, you may want to wear this if you don't have an amulet of life saving, though, as a randomly generated amulet is about twelve times more likely to be life saving than second chance, you'll probably find life saving first.
