Archaeologists are one of the harder classes, but can become powerful in the late game.

Archaeologists can be human, a gnome, or a dwarf.

Their quest artifact is The Orb of Detection, which confers magic resistance and telepathy, gives you half damage when attacked by spells, and can be invoked to toggle invisibility on and off.

Best weapons are a pick-axes, sabres, boomerangs, and whips. And you can bareknuckle pretty good too. Dwarvish mattocks are two handed pick-axes that rock pretty hard.

A good artifact weapon for you is Grayswandir, a silver sabre that really kicks ass in Gehennom. Keep an eye out for captains because they sometimes carry silver sabres as well.
