The bug is actually mostly fixed in [[NetHack 3.4.3]], with one minor exception; the bug will still occur if loading a [[bones file]] from an older game in the 3.4 series. Thus, this bug can be completely fixed accidentally by any change or patch that breaks bones file compatibility, and as such is fixed in the vast majority of NetHack variants, although it technically is not fully fixed in 3.4.3.
