OK, I've seen this a few times.
I accidently hit the "/", so it wants to search.
I hit "." when the cursor is in the blackness outside the corridors/rooms.
I get a pop-up window saying, in part:
Microsoft Visual C++ runtime Library
X Debug Assertion Failed!
Program <long path from my home directory>\isctype.c Line: 56
Expression: c>=-1&&c<=256
