The Sword of Balance is a neutrally aligned silver short sword spear added in SLASH'EM.[1] It is another artifact in the game that can be created by #name-ing, along with Sting, Orcrist and Elfrist. To do so type in #name, select a normal silver short sword, and name it Sword of Balance. To make sure you did it correctly, you may now try to name the sword into something completely different—all artifacts resist naming. It can also be given as a gift by sacrificing.
Strategy
This artifact is relatively weak, so it is usually better to wish for another, better artifact. However, if you have skill in short swords, have no other better weapons, and have no wishes, then it may be useful to create it by naming. The fact that it is erodeproof, and does silver-damage are nice bonuses.
