A wand of cancellation can be used to:
- change most potions into water (but fruit juice, booze and oil are not changed, and see invisible and sickness become fruit juice).
- change scrolls into blank scrolls
- neutralize monsters by taking away their special attacks
- neutralize negative and positive enchantments of weapons and armor
- uncurse and unbless items
- erase engravings
The wand of cancellation has a number of complicated effects; when you find one, it will behoove you to study thoroughly the article on cancellation before zapping it!
Do not zap yourself with an unidentified wand that makes engravings disappear; if it is a wand of cancellation, you will lose all your scrolls, spellbooks, and potions; these will become blank scrolls or water.
Putting a charged wand of cancellation into a bag of holding will cause a magical explosion that will destroy the bag and everything within it. Don't do this. Zapping a bag of holding, however, will either unbless or uncurse it, and will have no effect whatsoever on the contents.
Zapping a wand of cancellation at a clay golem will erase some writing on its head, killing it instantly.
Among other special attacks, Magicbane has a cancellation attack, which is similar to zapping something with a wand of cancellation.
