A little proposal, why not have socially positive adverts. Some examples: buy nothing day (yea, missed it for 4 days :'() autism launch Maybe others with the red cross .... stuff like that... Maybe with a template for easy change? Maybe rotate randomly through a list? What you people think?--Quantum Immortal (talk) 11:51, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
- It's probably best to have no adverts at all. That was one of the reasons for forking, after all (although not the main one). Ais523 (talk) 03:59, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
- What you think of this one? buy nothing day (the same as above). TV stations refused to air it at all, even when offered money. watch it please. Also this one awareness test (do the test seriously, yes it's an advert too). They are different from normal adds, they don't sell a stupid product.--Quantum Immortal (talk) 12:23, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not talking about obnoxious adds like these Balmer sells Windows 1 . I'm talking about things like these buy nothing day. I'm saying to put them for free of course... :D --Quantum Immortal (talk) 19:22, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- NetHackWiki is about NetHack
- NetHack is for nerds
- Nerds are annoyed by advertising
- NetHackWiki does not want to annoy its users
- are any of these premises false? --195.2.244.193 12:49, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not particularly annoyed by advertising, but I also don't see a need for nethackwiki to pick arbitrary causes on youtube to post links to. (My only problem with wikia's advertising is that it's done so horribly that at times it literally covers up the content.) Wooble (talk) 13:54, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
.... What about an ad about adblock?--Quantum Immortal (talk) 12:53, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
Let's stay on-topic. Ads for the variants, upcoming tournaments, roguebasin, freenode chat, NAO, advice, "do edit the wiki", etc are fine with me. --Tjr (talk) 16:18, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hmm nethack porn is on topic? :P --Quantum Immortal (talk) 19:16, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- I agree that ads are awful, and I'm not at all sure that everyone agrees on what is "socially positive" (consider the largely hypocritical and abusive social-justice movement on Tumblr). 109.157.79.50 14:46, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
