Forum:Taming a unique creature
I am playing Slashem as a archiologist and I wished for a statute of master kaen with the intent of taming him. After a lot of polypiling I got a spellbook of stone to flesh and a scroll of taming to my surprise Master Kaen turned out to be a doppleganger is there anyway for me to get him in the game I assumed my quest enemy/leader was unavailble but I thought I could get another class's enemy what will happen if I wish for a corpse of master kaen and zap a wand of undead turning will it be another doppleganger?Ndwolfwood 23:09, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
- Likely it's special-cased in some way. The point is moot because you can't pacify other classes' quest nemeses either, see Dog.c#line753 or Source:SLASH'EM_0.0.7E7F2/dog.c#line850 for vanilla or SLASH'EM, respectively. --Tjr 23:16, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
- I tested this in wizmode in vanilla, and it seems that wishing for a corpse or a figurine of a quest leader or enemy produces a random corpse or figurine instead. Interestingly, the quest guardians are special cased so that wishing for their corpse produces a corpse of the corresponding player monster instead. Wishing for a quest guardian figurine still gives a random figurine, though. Also, you can wish for tins of quest guardian meat, but wishing for tins of quest leader or enemy meat produces a random tin (even though some leaders and enemies can in fact be tinned). --Ilmari Karonen 23:33, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
- Also, for completeness, wishing for a Scorpius egg gives a scorpion egg (special cased), but wishing for Ixoth or Chromatic Dragon eggs gives a generic egg instead of a dragon egg. Presumably this is because the latter two are not marked as oviparous in monst.c, although that doesn't really explain why not. --Ilmari Karonen 23:45, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
- You can wish for a statue of any monster, including unique and genocided ones. Bear in mind, however, that casting stone to flesh on a statue will not always produce that monster—for example, animating a statue of a unique monster or quest guardian will instead produce a doppelganger disguised as that monster.
- Reference given: Trap.c#line439.
- Theoretically, since stoning a monster should make the polymorph permanent it might be possible to wish for a unique monster, stone to flesh it, immediately stone it, and then stone to flesh it again. However as all quest nemeses are immune to stoning you would only be able to pull this off with someone like Demogorgon, who just happens to be a fearsome opponent and a worthless pet. I've never tried this and I doubt it's worth it in a regular game anyways.
- Also, taming your own quest nemesis should be possible as this is SLASH'EM, not vanilla. You just need to abuse the genetic engineer self-polymorph. I've never bothered trying to tame the quest nemesis, but I have tamed medusa, demogorgon, and Nightmare, all of which are normally untamable. -- Qazmlpok 01:15, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure that stone-and-unstone trick won't work, even if you could do it: the statue will always revive as a doppelganger. --Ilmari Karonen 01:38, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, confirmed with a doppelganger statue of demogorgon in Vanilla. He revived the second time as demogorgon, but then quickly turned into a samurai. Maybe it's only regular polymorph that becomes permanent from stoning (obviously only relevant in SLASH'EM) and not shapechanger polymorph. -- Qazmlpok 02:25, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

so my next plan is to make Jumbo the elephant my mount am I correct in believing I can not wish for him? Ndwolfwood 03:04, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
- Nope. You should only get a doppelganger. Try Nightmare instead. I tamed him to try to mount him but I never got a chance. Certainly could be interesting having a covetous mount. -- Qazmlpok 03:36, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
I recently genocided dopplegangers. What will happen if I stone to flesh a unique creature statue now? I'd rather not waste a wish just to find out. And I don't know how to use wizard modeNdwolfwood 22:38, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- Absolutely nothing. The statue did not change at all. -- Qazmlpok 23:00, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
