Helplessness

Two questions here:

1) What differentiates helplessness from momentary lapses? For example, #chatting to a monster does immobilize you for a turn, but your death isn't recorded as being "while helpless" if you die during that turn. Is it just the duration (>1 turn), or is there something else to it?

2) How does immobilization with putting on or removing armor work? It is interruptible, but a) it seems to be imperfectly so, i.e. it seems to take a turn or two to stop putting on/taking off armor and b) how does it work if you try to start putting on your armor again, after you have been interrupted?

Message while protected

Quaffing a portion of paralysis while wearing a ring of free action, I received the message "You stiffen momentarily", not "You momentarily stiffen". It's a minor matter, but should this be changed, or do both messages appear? --Ephialtis (talk) 22:48, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
