  • This is not possible. If you convert permanently, you cannot start the quest at all (the game is unwinnable). If you are wearing a helm of opposite alignment you cannot start the quest before removing it. If you are inside the quest branch, you cannot put it on at all (but still loose divine protection for trying it). --79.210.92.103 14:43, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

You could get quest permission, step down the stairs at least once, and leave the quest branch. If you convert to neutral and #invoke the Eye of the Aethiopica, you can complete the rest of the quest as a neutral. The texts in Source:NetHack_3.4.3/dat/quest.txt don't contain the name of your deity. So you should be able to get a message with a different god.
