Creating separate pages for permadeaf conduct and permahallu conduct

I would like to create separate pages for the permadeaf conduct and permahallu conduct.

  • These conducts are not exclusive to TNNT. Unofficial conduct says that xNetHack and SpliceHack have permadeaf and xNetHack, SpliceHack, and UnNetHack have permahallu.
  • The two sections about these conducts contain spoilers. The rest of this page discloses the existence of TNNT features such as the swap chests and the deathmatch arena, but does not describe their workings nor describe strategy for them. Thus, an unspoiled player who reads the rest of this page will be mostly unspoiled and can enjoy exploring the new features themselves. I would like to keep the page this way.

The small section about petless conduct is fine with me, because it describes an obvious thing about petless (if the player preserves petless conduct then TNNT NetHack will preserve it too) that doesn't give away any spoilers.

What do you think?

Yeah, I'm surprised they don't seem to have separate articles of their own already - double check they aren't around already before proceeding, but other than that I'm on board. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 04:12, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Okay I will study Foodless, Atheist, and Zen and then proceed. Permadeaf first because I have actually played that conduct on TNNT. Furey (talk) 12:06, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
I created Permadeaf. Please take a look. When Permadeaf page is good, I plan to change this main TNNT page to link to the new Permadeaf page. Furey (talk) 14:53, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Proposal: Split page into "The November NetHack Tournament" and "TNNT (the game)"

Several reasons:

  • It would be nice if an unspoiled players could learn about the tournament without getting spoiled about the game. The first time I played the tournament, in 2022, I was unspoiled. So I saw the devteam office I had to figure it out myself! That was rare and exciting.
  • A tournament is a tournament, and a variant is a variant. This tournament and this game have a 1:1 relationship right now. But that could change.
  • Many articles have lists of variants and the changes the variant makes to the article subject. Until recently, the container article looked like this: https://nethackwiki.com/index.php?title=Container&oldid=169334
    • SporkHack
    • UnNetHack
    • AceHack
    • dNetHack
    • DynaHack
    • NetHack Fourk
    • FIQHack
    • EvilHack
    • The November NetHack Tournament
  • The November NetHack Tournament looks bizarre in that list.

I propose:

  • Create a new page named TNNT (the game).
    • Populate the game page with the sections "Gameplay differences", "New and enhanced commands", "New and enhanced options".
    • The tournament page would keep the sections "Clans", "Awards", "Beta Testing", and "History".
  • Do a crawl on existing pages, changing them to either The November NetHack Tournament or TNNT (the game).
  • After the crawl, change 'TNNT' from a redirect to a disambiguation page.

Disadvantages:

  • Changing the way people use language is quixotic. See previous discussions of player vs character/hero, or the use of the word luck.

What do you think?

Sounds fine by me. --K2 (talk) 20:34, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

Draft article at https://nethackwiki.com/wiki/User:Furey/TNNT_(the_game) . I'm letting it bake now.

Article has been split. I am cleaning up loose edges now. Furey (talk) 23:13, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
