Winning every class in SLASH'EM. A couple notes on names:

  • The cut-off names are "Dr. Kneazle" and "Frosty the Snow-Elf"
  • The names fall into one a few patterns:
    • Random combinations of syllables that seemed appropriate to the species/class (Ixilana, Knarl, etc)
    • Pretty obvious references (Sir Robin, Elvira)
      • Mildly less obvious reference: Garrett the Rogue is a reference to the protagonist of the Thief series
    • Fairly obvious jokes (Kaboom, Frosty the Snow Elf)
      • Mildly less obvious joke: Chesepas is an angram of "Cheapass", an apt term for a Doppelganger Barbarian that violated every conduct.
    • Ennistymon is a reference to one of my favorite little "metagames" with Tourists: roll tourist, use ?magic mapping to find a shop, if the shop doesn't contain anything to make the game interesting/easier (things like speed boots, a decent weapon, an attack wand, mithril, etc), commit suicide by attacking the shopkeeper. Do it from melee range so the death is recorded as "Killed by Mr. Ennistymon, the shopkeeper" rather than "Killed by a shotgun shell". Name the next tourist after the murderous shopkeeper (I was just trying to take a picture of you!). Trying to make each tourist die only to a shopkeeper is a challenge, but one that produces an amusing series of lines in the log file.
    • Slashie is just a name I've used in SLASH'EM since I started playing it around 2008. Not a reference to (nor am I) the roguelike developer Slashie, though I did enjoy Emerald Woods.
