The barbed devil, &, is a demon in NetHack. It is slightly stronger than the Horned devil, but weaker than the Water demon. As such they do rather unimpressive damage, although they do tend to appear in groups. By the time a player encounters one, they should be properly equipped to deal with them. Usually one will find them in Gehennom unless summoned by some other means.
