A spitting beetle is an insect in SLASH'EM. It is most often seen when summoned by priests via summon insects.
Strategy
Spitting beetles are slow compared to most insects. They do a fair amount of damage, but not enough to make them that serious of a threat, especially when compared to assassin bugs or migo queens. Still, they should not be ignored if they are summoned right next to you. It is preferable to engage them in melee combat, as then they cannot use their acid attack, although it is not that damaging to begin with.
