Shaman

Several monsters in NetHack are described as shamans:

• k kobold shaman
• o orc shaman
• @ Shaman Karnov

The generic shamans are low-level arcane spellcasters, but strangely Shaman Karnov is not. The descriptor shaman is purely cosmetic: in particular, unlike minions and aligned priests, shamans have no particular association with any god.

Variants

Several variants introduce new shamans:

SLASH'EM

• G gnoll shaman, a high-level spellcaster notably capable of casting both arcane and clerical monster spells.

EvilHack

• o goblin shaman, a low-level spellcaster similar to a kobold shaman

GruntHack

• GruntHack uses racial monsters; orc, kobold and ettin mages are described as "<species> shamans."

dNetHack

• An orc high shaman serves a mini-boss in the Mordor Ruins quest.
