Should there be variant-specific sections?
The article as it currently exists reads:
- Crystal golems have a powerful weapon attack, and a strong breath weapon that selects a damage type at random akin to that of the Chromatic Dragon - in Hack'EM, the weapon attack is changed to a claw attack. Crystal golems possess fire resistance, cold resistance, shock resistance, sleep resistance, poison resistance, magic resistance, and reflection; in SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM, they also possess drain resistance, while in Hack'EM they possess acid resistance. A crystal golem that is subjected to stoning will become a stone golem.
Normally for a monster in vanilla NetHack, we would have a "Variants" section. Since crystal golems don't appear in vanilla NetHack, I can see why that might be awkward. But for this article and others with non-vanilla content, I think there should still be a way to move variant-specific data to a section.
A very different approach is taken in the vorpal jabberwock article, where almost all the data is in variant-specific sections. But that article also does not have subsections for strategy. --Aximili (talk) 04:02, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- What I've taken to doing is creating variant-specific articles for differentiated-enough variant monsters. This is an instance where I judged it (somewhat arbitrarily, mind) as not being enough differences between versions to fully split them - obviously, this isn't set in stone and is very subject to change, especially if or when someone decides to write up how they figure into Hack'EM strategy.
- Far as the vorpal jabberwock article, that's overdue for the split treatment I've given beholders and other similar defunct-in-vanilla monsters. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 10:29, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
