The horned devil, &, is a demon that appears in NetHack. It is the weakest of the major demons, slightly lower in difficulty than even the water demon.

Generation

Since horned devils are flagged as only appearing in Gehennom, and no lawful creatures can be randomly generated there, they (along with barbed devils and erinys) are effectively never randomly generated. They most often appear in graveyards and devil lairs, and are also eligible for gating by other major demons.

They are generated with either a trident (75% chance) or a bullwhip (25% chance).

Encyclopedia Entry

Horned devils lack any real special abilities, though they
 are quite difficult to kill.
