Low boots are the weakest of the non-magical boots. When unidentified, they appear as walking shoes (not to be confused with water walking boots).

Generation

Low boots are generated randomly, and are a reasonably common find in armor shops. Additionally, it is possible for the player to create a set of fireproof +0 low boots by polymorphing a crocodile corpse, although most players with access to polymorph and the ability to kill a crocodile will probably already have better boots.

Description

Low boots provide 1 AC but no other properties. Being made of leather, they are not susceptible to rust or corrosion, but can be burnt or rotted by certain attacks.

Weighing only 10 aum, low boots are the lightest of all magical and non-magical boots.

Strategy

Low boots are better than nothing, giving a bit of AC and also preventing certain YASDs involving cockatrice corpses. In some cases they may even be superior to iron shoes, as attacks and (in particular) traps that degrade metal items are more common than those that degrade organic items, and low boots are also much lighter.

Generally, low boots will be replaced with a set of high boots or some type of magical footwear.
