The article says that monsters are created that are the same alignment as the caster or neutral, so I thought that I could polyself into a black dragon and disintegrate Medusa's pet titan(lawful) without fear of Lichs or MMFs(chaotic) being summoned. and then the MMF ate my brain a bunch of times before I could disintegrate him, too. :-( So, what does it mean that the summoned monsters are the same alignment or neutral? Thanks Derekt75 09:50, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah I think that was wrong, actually. I can't find any reference to alignment in mcastu.c for the summon nasties spell. I went ahead and removed it.
- Not to armchair general too much here, but a burned Elbereth square or scroll of scare monster would have been far more effective, especially in combination with black dragon polyself. -Ion frigate 18:06, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- Probably somebody confused that with demon summoning. --Tjr 00:07, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for fixing. and yes, it was late at night, but I should have used my wand of lightning for an Elbereth. (hadn't found a wand of fire yet). I just didn't pay attention to that nasty h next to me until I had severe amnesia (but fortunately survived). To make matters worse, I forgot to bring a potion of see invisible from my stash, so I wore a blindfold to see the titan... and then got touched by a green slime that I couldn't see while I was mopping up the other nasties. I had prayed about 1000 turns ago, so I wasn't sure if I should use that. I instead wound up using my "oLS. and then I thought about crossing the lake while I could fly (I had no way to levitate). As soon as I got to the water, an electric eel destroyed my =oTC, =oPoly, and some other ring (but fortunately not my =oPolyControl, and didn't drown me). I promptly retreated, but in the span of a couple minutes, I had gotten some serious amnesia, lost an "oLS, and lost several useful rings. argh. Derekt75 04:52, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Demon lords and princes
Just to establish and clarify, can the spell summon any of them when used by demons? --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 03:50, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
- When cast in Gehennom, it has a chance to summon demons as if cast by the Wizard of Yendor regardless of who's actually casting it[1]. This means a demon lord or prince may be summoned. - Andrio Celos (talk) 05:04, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
- righto, thank you for the citation. Is it possible for the Wizard (and by extension any sufficiently-leveled caster) outside Gehennom as well? --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 22:53, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- Alright, thank you. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 01:38, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
