This page is my own tutorial. Follow it, if you want to start playing NetHack and you don't know what to do. I will assume that you've already chosen your role, race, alignment and gender. This article should help you in it. Personally, I like being neutral human wizard, though if you want to be a wizard, you should rather start as elf or gnome, with elf being slightly better, while gnome is a bit easier.

Why a wizard, though? Because a wizard is quite tricky in the beggining, and you may die a lot, but from some point he becomes most powerful role in whole game. When you start good with a wizard, you can play a senseful game later on.
