As an avid player of EvilHack, I have collected a bunch of stuff to write down. Mostly tips, strategies and maybe even bugs I have found. K2, I want you to ignore any of my precious "exploits" I have collected here, so begone!

rcfile

If you are just starting to play EvilHack, you may want to adjust your options.

  • Highlight dragonhide and crystal/gemstone items.
    • MENUCOLOR=" dragonhide .*"=brown
    • MENUCOLOR=" crystal .*"=brown
    • These are the most valuable ones.
    • Depending on your personal preferences, you may also want to highlight mithril and silver.
  • Make sure to pay attention to the new Withering status.
  • Make it a stop when you hear a monster looting a container.
    • MSGTYPE=stop "You hear something rummaging through *"
  • Important: Make it an alert when a monster makes a wish for something!
    • MSGTYPE=alert "You hear * making a wish!"
    • MSGTYPE=alert " makes a wish for *"

Wishes

There are some popular wishes. Make sure to wish for them greased and fixed!

  • Dragonhide Hawaiian Shirt of Decay.
    • There are no artifact shirts and this is an excellent use of your shirt slot.
    • You may also use a normal shirt, but these do not feature readable patterns.
  • Dragonhide Speed boots
    • Speed is essential and dragonhide gives you extra AC.
  • Bone (or stone) Gauntlets of Power.
    • Excellent if you play as an illithid (which are capped at 10 strength).
    • Stone has an extra -1 AC but is heavier.
  • Figurine of a Woodchuck named CARL
    • When you stand on the correct high altar with the amulet and have a spare wish left.
    • The developer will like you for this one.

Strategies

Zombie farming

If you can cure yourself of sickness somehow and want to farm a bit, try killing the hordes of zombies until their corpses vanish. Unlike trolls they have a chance to drop new stuff when they revive. This can be especially fun with low level zombies such as kobold or gnome zombies. This also means you can extinct them relatively easy.

Goblin Town farming

Also an excellent early food source, only o, k and r will spawn there. If you camp there long enough, make sure to kill the goblin king first, you can get one horde of orcs spawning after another, making it easy to extinct them naturally. Be wary of uruk-hai riding wargs though!

Additionally, many of the wargs will drop saddles and even bardings. So if you have a mount and still need some accessoires for it, it may be a good idea to farm some warg riders.

Convicts

Convicts are a unique role with cool challenges. Disappointing quest artifact though.

Traps/Fake bones

You start off on the verge of being hungry. When entering a level or encountering a corpse which is obviously on a trap, you may want to just risk it and step onto it since it will be relatively harmless dart/arrow/bolt traps most of the time, which only have a low chance of poisoned projectiles. Falling rock traps are dangerous very early game though, so these may kill you instantly. The corpse is safe to eat either way due to your sickness resistance, so it may be an early source of nutriton.

Goblin Town

Goblin town has a guaranteed forge and usually also a war hammer, which you can use to unpunish yourself and get a lighter weapon.

Infidels

Great quest artifact but also very difficult due to champions randomly appearing and dishing out massive damage.

Auto identifying items

As an infidel you are weldproof, which means you can safely put on or pick up cursed stuff, including loadstones. If you find a jewelry shop, go ham and try out all the rings. Just be careful to not accidentally keep an unidentified ring of teleport on and therefor get chased by the kops. Also be careful if you try on amulets. An amulet of change will disintegrate, making you owe money to the shopkeeper.

Teleportitis

Since you carry the amulet with you all the times, it prevents you from teleporting. If you are short on food, you can usually safely consume corpses which convey teleportitis. Keep in mind that this may screw you up when you lose the amulet.

Orctown

Many hate orctown, but for you it means an unaligned altar and plenty of sacrifices. Just be careful around the poison.
