User talk:Ch3182
Welcome!
Hi, Ch3182! Welcome, and thanks for joining NetHackWiki!
- The How to help and Style guide pages are excellent starting points.
- Special:RecentChanges is a great first stop, because you can see what other people are editing right this minute, and where you can help.
- Questions? Need help? You can ask at the Community Portal, the forum, or on the discussion page associated with each article! Just remember to sign those posts with four tildes: ~~~~. That will expand to create a signature.
You can put {{NAOplayer|NAO player account}} on your user page to link to your NAO player account. Capitalization matters.
We are really happy to have you here, and look forward to working with you!
This is an automated greeting.

Updating articles to 5.0
Editing the version number in {{upcoming}} isn't a useful change to articles. Now that NetHack 5.0.0 is released, we need to update the wiki to contain information about the new version – but just editing {{upcoming}} doesn't do that (in fact, it just causes confusion because 5.0.0 isn't an upcoming version). The correct way to fix the article is to rewrite the whole article (except the "History" section) to be based on the new version of the game (and update the "History" section to explain how the older versions were different). That can't be done just using the existing version of the page; it would need to be done by someone who knows the all the relevant mechanics of the new version so that the new page can be based on them (including ones that weren't previously noted on the page). See Template:Upcoming for information on the process for updating a page for a new version. Ais523 (talk) 03:04, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
- To emphasize, you're not in danger of administrative action or anything of the sort: we're just informing you that the updating process should be done properly and how to do it. There's also Template:Recent to consider as well, alongside the style guide as a whole (which was just recently updated itself - you can imagine this was about as sudden for us as it was for the rest of the playerbase and editors alike). --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 03:10, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
- As an example, take the recent work done on the soldier ant and killer bee articles, as well as the gelatinous cube article that I'm in the middle of updating similarly—it can be a fairly involved process, especially when the article in question isn't fully reflective of even the previous stable versions to say nothing of the recently-released one. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 03:35, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
