Wax
Wax is a material for items that appears in NetHack.[1]
Description
Wax is flimsy, organic and flammable. Both wax candles and tallow candles are made of wax.
Though a gelatinous cube will not normally eat objects made of wax upon engulfing them, a hero polymorphed into a gelatinous cube can eat wax objects, and doing so breaks vegan conduct (but not vegetarian).[2][3][4]
Polypiling enough wax objects may result in the creation of a straw golem, which acts as a fall-through for all unlisted material types when creating a golem by polypiling.[5]
History
Wax items first appear in NetHack 3.1.0 with the addition of both types of candle.
Messages
- You see <waxy> streaks on the stone(s).
- You rubbed a wax item on any type of gray stone.[6]
- A <wax item> is crushed!
- Wax items were destroyed from forcing a chest open with a blunt item.[7]
Variants
Some NetHack variants add more items that are made of wax, and others that use object materials systems often allow a wider range of items to be made of wax.
The wax golem is a common addition in some NetHack variants that can leave behind items made of wax in lieu of a corpse.
SLASH'EM
In SLASH'EM, the magic candle is a new item made of wax.
dNetHack
In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, the candle of invocation is a new item made of wax, and the church-hammer and church-brick have a chance of generating as made of wax.
SpliceHack
In SpliceHack, items with a base material of iron, metal, wood, cloth, or leather have a very rare 1⁄1000 chance of generating as made of wax. Wax golems have a low chance of leaving behind wax items other than candles as part of their death drop.
