dNetHack

In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, Grumbar is a neutral god of neutral holiness, and his minions consist of standard neutral elementals: air elementals, water elementals, fire elementals, earth elementals, and mortai.

Origin

Grumbar is the elemental embodiment of earth in the Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons & Dragons, introduced when the Forgotten Realms was published as a setting in 1987: he and the other Elemental Lords were added as replacements for the elemental lords from the Melniboné setting of Michael Moorcock's works. He is one of the four Elemental Lords, a quartet of primordials worshiped as gods in Faerûn that remained on the planet Toril when it was separated from Abeir. Grumbar is known as the goddess Etugen in the Hordelands, and as Grome to the duergar of Zakhara; he otherwise has a minimal following in Faerûn, and is not especially caring towards them.

Grumbar appears as an enormous earth elemental with red eyes that glimmer like rubies, and is a quiet and resolute being who resists change moreso than other divine powers. He protects the great riches found within the earth, and once dwelled within the Great Mountain in the Elemental Plane of Earth; following the cataclysm of the Spellplague, Grumbar formed a new domain for himself called Root Hold. Grumbar naturally has ties with other deities of elemental earth, albeit loose at best: this includes Geb, Garl Glittergold, Dumathoin, Laduguer, and Urogalan.

Much like earth itself, Grumbar may seem indifferent, uncaring,
and resistant to change, but also represents a stability,
consistency, and resolution that is especially appealing to
those followers who worship him as the Elemental Lord of Earth.
