An anthole is a special room that appears in NetHack. It is filled with food items, and is entirely populated by one of the three ant monsters: soldier ants, giant ants, or fire ants.[1] The ants will be generated sleeping.
Generation
There is a 1⁄8 chance of an anthole being generated in ordinary rooms-and-corridors levels on or below dungeon level 13, if they do not have a shop, throne room, leprechaun hall, zoo, temple, beehive or graveyard.[2]
Antholes will not be generated if ants are genocided or extinct.

Strategy
By the time you encounter an anthole, the ants will probably be easy to deal with.
Variants
EvilHack
In EvilHack, antholes will also contain a queen ant.
Hack'EM
In Hack'EM, antholes will also contain a queen ant as in EvilHack.
