Blindness

Blindness is an inability to see. If you lack telepathy, this makes it very dangerous to move around, because you could inadvertently kill your pet or blunder into a peaceful monster. If you have telepathy, though, blindness can be quite useful as it enables you to see all monsters with brains on the level. Intrinsic telepathy is only active when you are blind.

Sources of blindness include drinking or being hit by a potion of blindness, an attack by a yellow light or raven (wearing a blindfold or towel protects against this), an adverse effect from reading a spellbook, eating rotten food, getting hit by a cream pie (Keystone Kops will throw them at you), wearing a blindfold or towel, or applying an expensive camera at yourself.

Blindness caused by a cream pie can be fixed by wiping your face (use the #wipe command), but this does not cure any other form of blindness. If you are wearing a cursed blindfold or towel, it may be useful to know that your god regards this as a major problem.

There are several ways to cure intrinsic blindness. You can simply wait for it to heal - this will only take a few turns if the blindness was caused by eating rotten food or being hit by a potion of blindness, but will take many hundreds of turns if you quaffed the potion. You can apply a unicorn horn, eat a carrot, or cast a spell of cure blindness. Prayer may help, but be aware that blindness is only considered a minor problem.
