Gauntlets of defense are better Gauntlets of dexterity in SLASH'EM.They are common ascension kit gloves. Each point of positive enchantment on the gloves increases the wearer's dexterity. Similarly, each point of negative enchantment decreases the wearer's dexterity.
Gauntlets of Defense count as artifact and they are the guaranteed first sacrifice gift for monks. When they are invoked you can toggle invisibility on/off. When they are worn you get half physical damage.
It should also be noted that the gauntlets are considered a lawful item, and can therefore blast a chaotic character upon being equipped.
They are also considered a good first wish - although they do not grant magic resistance or reflection like dragon scale mails, the damage reduction and invisibility is extremely useful, especially for Wizards, as they start with MR.
