A potion of enlightenment allows you to momentarily see your intrinsics and other attributes.

If the potion is blessed, it has the added effect of gaining one point each of intelligence and wisdom. Both blessed and uncursed potions exercise wisdom. However, a cursed potion will only abuse wisdom - not even providing enlightenment. You receive the message "You have an uneasy feeling..." and are prompted to name the potion.

Alchemy

Main article: Alchemy

Despite its good natural uses, the potion of enlightenment is usually saved for alchemy as it can be used in a recipe to create potions of gain level.

As with all alchemy, there is a 1/10 chance of an alchemic blast, where the mixture will explode. The blast will take 1 to 10 HP from you, and it will generate vapors from the potion being dipped. The blast will also abuse your strength.[1]

The following table taken from the Alchemy page shows the appropriate recipes involving potions of enlightenment.

To make Use these ingredients
  1. potion of confusion + potion of gain level or
  2. potion of confusion + potion of gain energy

potion of enlightenment + potion of levitation
