The Ruins of Moria are a dungeon branch in UnNetHack, modeled after the Mines of Moria from the Lord of the Rings series.
The programmer who added the Moria code had this to say:
New experimental dungeon branch, the Ruins of Moria. Contains an unseemly number of orcs, a bunch of loot, an incredibly large number of orcs, two new uniques, a pretty impressive number of orcs, a guaranteed horn of plenty, a great deal of orcs, and a 50% chance of an altar. Also, did I mention there are orcs? (Spoiler: Be on your guard. There are older and fouler things than orcs in the deep places of the world.)
