The Ruins of Moria are a dungeon branch in UnNetHack, modeled after the Mines of Moria from the Lord of the Rings series.

The programmer who added the Moria code had this to say:[1]

New experimental dungeon branch, the Ruins of Moria. Contains an unseemly number of orcs,
a bunch of loot, an incredibly large number of orcs, two new uniques, a pretty impressive number
of orcs, a guaranteed horn of plenty, a great deal of orcs, and a 50% chance of an altar.
Also, did I mention there are orcs?
