The Sword of Annihilation is an artifact weapon that appears in EvilHack. It is unaligned, and its base item is a long sword made of steel.
Generation
The Sword of Annihilation can only be created by combining Fire Brand and Frost Brand at a forge; it cannot be wished for, and will revert to its base item if left in a bones file.
Description
The Sword of Annihilation has +1d5 to-hit and a +1d12 damage bonus against monsters that do not have disintegration resistance. There is a 1 in 12 chance that a nonresistant monster will be disintegrated entirely; this instakill chance is especially valuable in Evilhack where uniques and large monsters can have lots of hit points. However, a disintegrated monster will leave no corpse or inventory behind (with the sole exception that Vecna will still leave a body part when disintegrated). On every hit, there is a chance that the defender's worn shield, armor, or cloak will be disintegrated as well.
The Sword of Annihilation provides disintegration resistance when wielded and is indestructible, much like the invocation items. In particular, it cannot be disintegrated or lost in a chasm.
The Sword of Annihilation can be forged together with Ashmar to create the Armor of Retribution.
Encyclopedia entry
Not much is known about this blade, as very few have lived
to tell the tale after encountering the one that wields it.
It is said that everything this sword touches is utterly
destroyed. Probably more rumor than anything...
