An anti-matter vortex:
|
An anti-matter vortex, v, is a type of monster that appears in NetHack brass. The anti-matter vortex is a highly dangerous form of vortex and the strongest one that can be encountered.
An anti-matter vortex has an engulfing attack that disintegrates the target. Anti-matter vortices possess shock resistance, fire resistance, cold resistance, sleep resistance, disintegration resistance, poison resistance, and stoning resistance.
Generation
Anti-matter vortices are not randomly generated.
Anti-matter vortices do not leave a corpse upon death.
Strategy
Anti-matter vortices have a base AC of 0 and move at a fast 18 speed, and can instantly kill a hero that does not have disintegration resistance. Fortunately, they are incredibly rare and most heroes will not encounter one to begin with outside of extreme misfortune with a shapeshifter or polymorph trap.
A hero facing a hostile anti-matter vortex should either use Elbereth to drive it off, teleport themselves or the vortex away, or use attack spells and wands to destroy it—disposable ranged weapons can work against them as well, and heroes with highly-enchanted projectiles may consider "trading" a few to ensure their own survival.
