In NetHack, the spellbook of cure sickness can be read to learn the spell of cure sickness. It is a level 3 healing spell, and the spellbook takes roughly six turns to read. The spell qualifies as an emergency spell, and is the special spell for Healers.

The spellbook of cure sickness makes up 3.25% of randomly-generated spellbooks.

Description

When cast, the spell cures all forms of sickness, including food poisoning and illness, and stops sliming.

Strategy

While most characters will prefer a blessed unicorn horn in most situations, the spell of cure sickness is one of the few curative methods that can be made 100% reliable - even a blessed unicorn horn is not guaranteed to cure illness. In addition, the spell is one of the safest means of curing sliming. High-level Healers with 18 wisdom can cast this spell with 0% failure rates, even while wearing metallic armor without a robe.

Variants

EvilHack

In EvilHack, the spell of cure sickness is directional and can be cast at other monsters - this will anger peaceful monsters unless they have an ailment that can be cured with the spell. The spell can also deal damage to zombies when cast at them.
