Restful sleep

Restful sleep is a property in NetHack that causes you to fall asleep at random intervals.

The only source of the property is wearing or eating an amulet of restful sleep.

Description

While wearing an extrinsic source of restful sleep, you will fall asleep sometime within 100 turns after you put on the object, awakening within 1 to 20 turns or when disturbed; this cycle continues as long as you wear the source of the extrinsic property. Possessing intrinsic restful sleep causes you to randomly fall asleep with the same effects. Sleep resistance will not cure the condition, but prevents you from actually falling asleep.

The following information pertains to an upcoming version (NetHack 3.7.0). If this version is now released, please verify that it is still accurate, then update the page to incorporate this information.

While you have restful sleep and are asleep, you regenerate hit points in a manner similar to regeneration, at the rate of 1 additional point per turn. If you are not polymorphed into another form, the healing from this stacks with normal HP regeneration and any additional regeneration properties (e.g. from a ring of regeneration). It does not cause you to hunger any faster than normal.

You fall asleep.
You have the restful sleep property, and have either fallen asleep or else viewed your status via enlightenment.

Variants

SLASH'EM

In SLASH'EM, the ring of sleeping also confers restful sleep while worn, and can be eaten to obtain the property.

FIQHack

In FIQHack, restful sleep is one of the intrinsic properties a non-cursed potion of wonder can confer when quaffed; dipping an appropriate item in a non-cursed potion also has a chance of giving it restful sleep as an object property.
