Shell

On NetHackWiki, the term "shell" can refer to any of the following.

• The computer program that provides relatively broad and direct access to the operating system, acting as a relatively thin layer around it.
  • The shell escape command, generally triggered using the ! key.
• The shotgun shell item in variants of NetHack:
  • Shotgun shell (SLASH'EM), as it appears in SLASH'EM, SpliceHack, SlashTHEM, and Hack'EM
  • Shotgun shell (dNetHack), as it appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack
• The shell object material as it appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack
• The shell of a tortle hero in variants of NetHack, and the ability to hide within said shell.
  • The shell technique in Hack'EM that is used for this purpose.
