The Staff of the Archmagi is an artifact that appears in EvilHack. It is unaligned and affiliated with Wizards, and its base item is an ashwood staff.

Generation

The Staff of the Archmagi can only be created by combining Magicbane and Secespita at a forge—it cannot be wished for, and will revert to its base item if left in a bones file.

Description

The Staff of the Archmagi grants half spell damage while carried, and while wielded it also grants magic resistance, blocks 1920 of curse items spells and other cursing effects as with Magicbane, acts as a light source (or a darkness source for heroes that start as drow), and reduces spellcasting failure rates by 12 for all spell schools. Invoking The Staff of the Archmagi grants temporary phasing for 51-150 (more) turns, with the duration of phasing added to the invoke timeout. A non-Wizard with the artifact will be blasted each time they 'touch' or invoke it.

As a weapon, The Staff of the Archmagi has +1d8 to-hit and deals +1d8 damage against monsters that fail a check versus their magic saving throw and heroes that lack magic resistance—it has many of the same additional effects as Magicbane, with the ability to stun, probe or confuse hit monsters, but will not cancel them.
