Talk:Athame
Engraving
After noticing this with MagicBane and wiztesting, it seems to be possible to (E)ngrave 'Elbereth Elbereth' in 1 turn with any athame. Dunno why. --Renx 06:14, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah, due to the way C handles integers you can engrave up to 19 characters per turn, not 10. Edited the article. --Renx 10:30, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Athames from purple L
Contrary to what Tjr thought, you can't get an athame from the possible master lich from the cursed Book of the Dead. The makemon call to create it contains NO_MINVENT, forcing the lich to be spawned with an empty inventory. Revgenning purple L will also fail to generate athames, for the same reason. --Darth l33t 23:50, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Getting an Athame in RL
If you want an athame in real life, Lichfield is one of the best places in the UK.
Joining its Aura of the Moon coven, you can go from all the way from forum member to Level 3 Wiccan in relative openness. You can buy a robe straight away, and your Wiccan athame from Level 1 AFAIK. --PeterGFin 18:02, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- I don't much fancy surviving the onslaught of purple L's that a place named 'Lichfield' would invariably bring... -Ion frigate 10:24, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- Is it ok with the Wiccans to buy an athame just because it's a neat item in Nethack, and cut bread with it? Similar to an Elbereth doormat? --Tjr 14:36, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- Ion Frigate: I assume thats how they get them. Tyr: how big are Nethack engrave letters supposed to be? I might write in the dust to keep the ants away.--PeterGFin 12:26, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
