Toustefna stave

In dNetHack, notdNetHack, and notnotdNetHack, the toustefna stave is a ward which scares d dog or other canine and f cat or other feline. Unlike regular wards, staves must be carved with a edged weapon into another weapon, which must be made of wood. A toustefna stave carved weapon must be dropped on the floor at the hero's feet to ward off monsters. The toustefna stave takes 3 turns, and cannot be reinforced further. It gains no secondary effects.

Generation

¹⁄₄₀₀ of all wooden weapons are generated with a toustefna stave carving. Wood weapons engraved with a toustefna stave cannot be wished for.

Troubadours and dwarf heros both start the game with knowledge of the toustefna stave.

Toustefna staves only appear in spellbooks of level 3 and above.

The odds of a spellbook containing a toustefna stave are:

• Level 3 spellbooks: ¹⁄₁₂ (~8.33%) chance.
• Level 4 spellbooks: ⁷⁄₇₂ (~9.72%) chance.
• Level 5 spellbooks: ¹⁄₁₆ (6.25%) chance.
• Level 6 spellbooks: ⁵⁄₇₂ (~6.92) chance.
• Does not appear in level 7 spellbooks.
