The Elder Cerebral Fluid is the Illithanachronounbinder quest artifact in notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, and is the prize for completing the Illithanachronounbinder quest. Its default alignment is lawful, and its base item is a dilithium crystal.

Generation

The Elder Cerebral Fluid cannot be wished for, and is reverted to its base item if left in a bones file.

For Illithanachronounbinders, The Elder Cerebral Fluid is always generated on the goal level of the Illithanachronounbinder quest, where it is placed on Menzoberranzan's square at level creation.

Description

While carried, The Elder Cerebral Fluid grants enhanced energy regeneration and half spell damage. If used as sling ammo, it has a +1d10 to-hit bonus and deals double damage against a non-mindless target with an extra effect on hit: for the hero, it drains their intelligence, and for non-mindless monsters it has a chance of canceling them.

As a gem, The Elder Cerebral Fluid can be used as a lightsaber "focus" crystal (done by looting the lightsaber while it is on the ground), but it can only be used this way for The Illithid Staff: doing so does not pass on any properties like other focus gems (although the Staff possesses near-identical properties on its own), instead enabling the ability to invoke The Illithid Staff's "Elder Memories" power.
