Reference | SpliceHack 1.2.0 - monst.c, line 2328 |
A green moldier, F, is a type of monster that appears in SpliceHack-Rewrite and Hack'EM. The green moldier is a type of humanoid mold with an affinity to acid similar to the green mold, and like all moldiers it is capable of following the hero to other levels while it is adjacent.
A green moldier has a weapon attack, as well as a passive attack that can trigger when it is attacked in melee, even if the attack kills the green moldier: the passive deals acid damage to the attacker dependent on their level, and has a separate chance of corroding certain weapons and armor that hit them. Green moldiers possess poison resistance, acid resistance and stoning resistance.
Eating a green moldier corpse or tin cures stoning on the first bite.
Generation
Randomly generated green moldiers are always created hostile. A green mold can grow up into a green moldier, though this does not normally occur in gameplay.
A green moldier can generate from a corpse that reaches 51 turns of age, is not acidic, and is not located within or on top of a square of water, ice or lava. Corpses infected by green moldiers may be turned into green moldiers themselves.
Strategy
Green moldiers should be fought using ranged attacks in order to avoid constant acid damage, especially if there are other hostile monsters accompanying them. Though the extra damage from copper weapons provide an important edge against moldiers in general, the acid from green moldiers can also cause them to corrode - projectiles used against them should ideally be non-metallic and/or disposable.
When dealing with a room of hostile monsters, dispose of as many of the corpses as reasonably possible (e.g. eating them, feeding them to pets, etc.) so that you have fewer potential moldiers to deal with - if possible, stash any leftover weapons and other loot so that moldiers cannot use them.

Mold, multicellular organism of the division Fungi, typified
by plant bodies composed of a network of cottony filaments.
The colors of molds are due to spores borne on the filaments.
Most molds are saprophytes. Some species (e.g., penicillium)
are used in making cheese and antibiotics.
