A cockatoo, c, is a type of monster that appears in the Lethe patch, SLASH'EM, SlashTHEM, and Hack'EM. The cockatoo is a small herbivorous domestic animal that is part of the cockatrice monster class—it is flightless like the rest of the monster class, it can be seen via infravision, and it has a tendency to wander while moving. In Hack'EM, cockatoos are also capable of flight and can pass through iron bars. A hero can throw apples and other vegan food at a cockatoo to make it tame.
A cockatoo has a single bite attack.
Chatting to a cockatoo causes it to give one of eight responses, a trait shared with the parrot.[1]

Generation
Randomly generated cockatoos may be peaceful towards a neutral hero.
Strategy
Cockatoos are not especially threatening when hostile, and at worst a hero can throw a food ration or other vegetarian "people food" to pacify it. As a pet, it is not especially remarkable to warrant taming, unless the player requires a pet to test the beatitude of items in a pinch or simply likes 'exotic' pets.
Origin
A cockatoo is any of the 21 species of parrots belonging to the family Cacatuidae, the only family in the superfamily Cacatuoidea. Along with the Psittacoidea (true parrots) and the Strigopoidea (large New Zealand parrots), they make up the order Psittaciformes. The word "cockatoo" dates from the 17th century and is derived from Dutch kaketoe, which in turn is from the Indonesian/Malay kakatua.
Cockatoos have a mainly Australasian distribution, ranging from the Philippines and the eastern Indonesian islands of Wallacea to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia. They are popular birds in aviculture for their appearance, intelligence and engaging personalities, but their needs are difficult to meet, and illegal trade in wild-caught birds contributes to the decline of some cockatoo species in the wild. Some cockatoo species have been adversely affected by habitat loss, particularly from a shortage of suitable nesting hollows after large, mature trees are cleared—conversely, some species have adapted well to human changes and are considered agricultural pests. Though they are not generally good at mimicking human speech, wild cockatoos have been known to learn human speech from ex-captive birds that have integrated into a flock.
Cockatoos are recognizable by their prominent crests and curved bills. Their plumage is generally less colorful than that of other parrots, being mainly white, grey, or black and often featuring colored crests, cheeks, or tails. On average, they are larger than other parrots with the exception of the medium-sized cockatiel, which is the smallest cockatoo species and one of the earliest offshoots of the cockatoo lineage. Cockatoos prefer to eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers, and insects; they often feed in large flocks, particularly when ground-feeding. Cockatoos are monogamous and nest in tree hollows.
