Generation
Potions of blood are not randomly generated.
Vampire heroes in roles that start with potions of fruit juice will have them replaced with potions of blood, though in practice this only applies to vampire Wizards that are given potions of fruit juice among the three random potions in their starting inventory.
Vampires have a 1⁄2 chance of generating with a potion of blood, which has a chance equal to ML⁄30 of being made into vampire blood instead.
Mixing potions of blood with potions of fruit juice will turn the juice into blood.
Applying a charged horn of plenty has a very low chance of generating a potion of blood.
Description
Quaffing the potion breaks vegetarian conduct and has different effects depending on if the hero is a vampire or not: a vampire that quaffs one will gain 30 nutrition for a blessed potion or 20 for an uncursed potion, while a cursed potion's contents have congealed and will give 0 nutrition, and a diluted potion gives half of the appropriate nutrition value. A hero that is not a vampire and quaffs a potion of blood of any beatitude will become nauseous for 10d8 (more) turns.
Dipping a unicorn horn into a potion of blood will turn it into a potion of water.
A thrown potion of blood that lands on a lawful or neutral altar will convert that altar to chaotic alignment if it is not on the Astral Plane, abuse the hero's wisdom, and cause any attendant priest to become hostile. Being subjected to the vapors of a broken potion of blood abuses wisdom if the hero is a vampire, and abuses constitution otherwise.
Strategy
The potion of blood is roughly equivalent to a potion of fruit juice for vampire heroes, and chaotic heroes may consider hanging onto it as a means of immediately converting an altar in a pinch. Otherwise, the potion can be safely made into water by dilution or using a unicorn horn.
