An axe is a kind of melee weapon. Axes do an extra d4 damage against wood golems.[1]
Axes are throwable, and quite useful on doors. It is not currently possible to apply them to corpses.
Barbarians start with an axe 50% of the time.[2]

Axes and battle-axes both use the axe skill. When applied, all types of axes can be used to chop down doors. Cleaver is the only artifact axe.
